Weeks' Itinerary
2010 Edition: March 16, 2010 |

Dear WDM Chamber Member:
Welcome to the special GREEN edition of the Weeks' Itinerary. Just when you thought I couldn't get any cornier, you received a green email.
Tomorrow is of course, St. Patrick's Day. According to Wikipedia, a very reputible website, St. Patrick's Day became an official feast day in the early 1600's. In honor of the traditional St. Patrick's Day, we invite you to attend the Breakfast B4 Business this week at Midwest Heritage Bank where you can feast on a hot breakfast catered by 3 Star Pacesetter, Hy-Vee. Though many of you are likely taking a Spring Break, we hope to see you tomorrow morning.
Also, please note the article below descibing the new format for West Des Moines Citizen of the Year. There are so many deserving men and women in our community and we would ask that you take some time to nominate one of those individuals for this prestigious award so that they can be properly celebrated.
Have a nice week. GO PANTHERS!
Julie

About the Peek of the Weeks':
Each week, we'll give you a little peek. A peek at something, someone, or somewhere within the WDM Chamber membership. It's your job to figure out what we're peeking at! The first person to e-mail Julie identifiying the correct business and object will win $5.00. An additional $5.00 will be added each week until someone guesses correctly. |
HELP BRING GOOGLE'S PILOT PROJECT TO WDM
The City of West Des Moines is taking part in a competition between several US cities for a spot in a recently announced Google pilot program entitled "Fiber for Communities." Google plans to install new Internet connections with data transfer rates faster than 1 Gigabit per second in the selected communities.
The application for the Google program is due March 26, after which Google will choose one or more cities for the project.
This is going to be a highly competititeve process! To be successful as a city, we need to show evidence of citizen support for the project. That's where you come in.
There are three levels of support the City is asking interested residents to demonstrate, ranging from answering a few questions to nominating West Des Moines through the Google website. Please take a look at the options below and pick the right fit for you!
1)Answer a few quick questions regarding the project on this website. Your responses will be submitted with our application.
2) Become a fan of the City of West Des Moines on Facebook and join the discussion about Google Fiber!
3) Visit the Google Fiber website and let them know you support the City of West Des Moines' application by nominating West Des Moines for this project!
Thanks in advance to everyone who is willing to help in the City's effort to bring this pilot program to West Des Moines. |
CITIZEN OF THE YEAR GETS A FRESH LOOK
The West Des Moines Citizen of the Year Award has traditionally been recognized at our Annual Dinner in January. However, this year we're shaking things up and making sure the Citizen gets celebrated in a fresh new way.
This year's award winner will be celebrated with a lovely outdoor reception on the patio of West Des Moines City Hall. The reception will be held in the evening on Friday, April 30th, and will feature cocktails and musical entertainment. The event will also serve as the kick-off to A-May-Zing Days, a month long series of events celebrating the City of West Des Moines.

WDM LIBRARY SEEKS YOUR THOUGHTS
The West Des Moines Chamber is cooperating with the West Des Moines Public Library in their effort to develop a community plan for public library service. Below is a link to a short web-based survey that should take you less than 5 minutes to complete. Please help us help the Library in their efforts to ensure that West Des Moines residents have access to high-quality library and information services!
