Dear WDM Chamber Member:
We've got a great line up of events this week starting with a ribbon cutting on Tuesday afternoon at One Social Media, LLC. On Wednesday, Breakfast B4 Business will be hosted by Travel & Transport Vacations where you could win a round trip air ticket on Allegiant! On Thursday, we will head over to Great Southern Bank on Mills Civic Parkway for the April Business After Hours. Our friends at Great Southern have planned a fantastic event featuring some excellent door prizes. To RSVP for either the Breakfast or the After Hours, click here.
There's still time to submit your idea for the "Brand the Annual Joint Chamber Golf Outing" Contest. It's easy, just email your idea to me at julie@wdmchamber.org. If your idea is selected, you will win a free morning foursome at the golf outing to be held onSeptember 10th. Please stay with the westen theme, anything else goes.
Also, please take some time to consider applying for the West Des Moines Leadership Academy, Class of 2011. The West Des Moines Leadership Academy is an intensive, regionally-oriented leadership development program designed to give potential and emerging leaders the skills, knowledge, and ongoing support they need to succeed in the West Des Moines community. To learn more, please visit www.wdmleaders.org.
Well, I'm sure I will be seeing a lot of you this week. Have a great rest of your Monday.

CHAMBER DEAL OF THE WEEK
Did you know you could be missing out on thousands of dollars in tax credits?
On March 18th the Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment (HIRE) Act was signed into law. Under this new law, employers can receive a tax "holiday" on the social security taxes they would normally pay for a qualified new employee. A qualified employee would be any new hire that:
1) Began employment after February 3rd, 2010, and before January 1st, 2011,
2) Has not been employed for more than 40 hours prior to the 60-day period ending on the day the individual begins work,
3) Is hired for a newly created position in the company or is replacing an employee that voluntarily left employment or was terminated for just cause, and
4) Is not related to the employer.
There is also a separate business tax credit giving the employer a maximum $1,000 credit against business income taxes for each new hire that is employed for at least 52 consecutive weeks.
This is only a snap shot of the new law. For more information on how to track employees that qualify or exactly what needs to be done to qualify, please call Danny Beyer, Steve Daniels or Dale Groh at 515-224-9400 or visit us at www.kabelbiz.com. Click the "Payroll Services" link and then click "Payroll Links."

NEEDING SOME NEW IDEAS & MORE BUSINESS CONTACTS?
If you answered YES to either of the above questions, you won't want to miss the 1st Annual Regional Affiliate Luncheon on Thursday, May 13th from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the Hy-Vee Conference Center in West Des Moines.
All area affiliate Chamber members have been invited to attend this great event featuring a business improv experience by Brave New Workshop,a comedy theatre group out of Minneapolis. Feel free to invite coworkers, employees and friends. We are hoping for over 300 in attendance.
Don't miss this great opportunity to network with Chamber members from across the Metro. For only $25 a person, this lunch is a definately worth talking about. Register now by clicking here. |
THE CITY TO CELEBRATE ON
A-MAY-ZING DAYS EVE
On Friday, April 30th, Scott A Hatfield will be honored as 2010 West Des Moines Citizen of the Year. Mr. Hatfield is Chairman of the Board of SVPA Architects Inc., and has been unanimously selected as Citizen of the Year based on a long history of service to the West Des Moines community. He is the 65th recipient of this annual award.
The special outdoor reception in Scott's honor will be held on the patio of West Des Moines City Hall, and is open to the public. There is no charge to attend, but RSVPs are appreciated. The event will also serve as the kick-off to A-May-Zing Days, a month long series of events celebrating the City of West Des Moines.
