Dear WDM Chamber Member:
 We want to give a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who helped or participated in last week's regional luncheon. It was our first ever event of this magnitude and we were extremely pleased by the turn-out and the generosity of our members. We hope you had a great time listening to the Brave New Workshop.
With the WDM Chamber this week, you have the opportunity to eat breakfast, have a drink and run a 5K, all in the same week! You might even get a little networking in there somewhere. Please mark your calendars for the Breakfast B4 Business, Regional Business After Hours and Zing into Spring 5K Fun Run/Walk. Details for each event are listed below. The Regional After Hours is sure to draw a large crowd as all 23 local affiliates have been invited to attend.

Each week, we'll give you a little peek. A peek at something, someone, or somewhere within the WDM Chamber membership. It's your job to figure out what we're peeking at! The first person to e-mail Julie identifiying the correct business and object will win $5.00. An additional $5.00 will be added each week until someone guesses correctly. |
 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
The West Des Moines Development Connection's Jobs Expo will be held Wednesday, June 2nd from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the West Des Moines Sheraton. Volunteers are needed to fill the following time slots.
8:30 AM to 11:00 AM
Eight volunteers to assist employers checking in, to help employers find their booth locations, and to answer questions from applicants.
11:00 AM to 2:00 PM
Five volunteers to assist applicants in locating seminars, take surveys and be a general resource.
2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Five volunteers to assist both employers and applicants.

 NEW BEGINNINGS SEED CAPITAL AWARDS COMPETITION
The City of West Des Moines and the Iowa Small Business Development Center along with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development are announcing a New Beginnings Seed Capital Awards Competition. The purpose of the competition is to address a growing need in the West Des Moines area for entrepreneurs to boost economic development and diversify its businesses, products and services. The future is filled with exciting promise for those with vision and innovative ideas. West Des Moines is inviting current business owners in operation less than four years; or those considering an entrepreneurial endeavor; or those who seek to locate a business in West Des Moines to apply.
The awards will be $25,000 for the first prize, $15,000 for second and $10,000 for third. Those interested are encouraged to submit an application and business plan to the Iowa Small Business Development Center by 4:30 p.m. on July 1, 2010.
The application and business plans will be reviewed. The top applicants will be invited to present their proposal to the judging panel. Those applicants will present their proposals in mid August.
